For years, Cub Scouting and Boy Scouting have given young men opportunities to excel, do new things, develop character and leadership while preparing for life. Now young ladies will also have those same opportunities. Beginning in the fall of 2018, Cub Scout Packs will have the option of adding all-girl dens. Existing Boy Scout Troops will remain unchanged. Beginning in 2019 chartering organizations will have the opportunity to organize Troops for Girls only. They will all follow the same program requirements.
The Scout Oath and Law are not gender specific and many parents have been asking why we won’t let their daughters benefit from our great program. Here is the official BSA press release announcing the upcoming change:
