On Wednesday, October 23rd, the National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America announced the annual membership fees for 2020. The youth fee is increasing to $60 while the adult and Exploring fees are increasing to $36.
Last night our Executive Board met and discussed the impact this increase will have on units and on Council membership and finances. Recognizing the challenge some families will face dealing with these increases on such short notice, the board voted to keep the Council Insurance fee of $3.00 rather than implement any needed increase. The $3.00 fee helps the council offset increasing Insurance fees and provide accident and sickness insurance for every registered member.
The resulting total annual registration fee will be $63.00 per youth (Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing) and $39 for adults and Explorers.
We understand the hardship this increase will create for some families. Units may wish to plan additional storefront and door-to-door sales during this final weekend of the Popcorn sale.
The council is also organizing an additional, year-end, council-wide product sale opportunity for units and families. We hope to make this opportunity available in November so product may be sold in time to be Christmas Gifts. We intend to allow units to keep 100% of the profit. Details will be sent as soon as they are finalized.
