"This is Scouting" was added to the BSA's on-line Learning Center over the weekend. "This is Scouting" replaces New Leader Essentials as a required course for Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing volunteers to earn the "Trained" leader emblem. Councils should eliminate New Leader Essentials from all training calendars and add a link to http://MyScouting.org.
While the primary delivery method for "This is Scouting" is on-line, a DVD . No. 36118, will be available after April 1, from Supply for areas where internet access is limited or where group presentation is desired.
All Scouters are encouraged to create a MyScouting account and access this training through the MyScouting portal, as credit
for this training will be recorded on their PAS record upon completion.
One of the keys to a successful Scouting experience for young people, second only to the selection of the right person for each responsibility, is trained volunteer leadership. Leadership training provides adult leaders with fundamental information about the aims and methods of the movement, as well as specifics about their particular roles in Scouting.
For this reason, the Muskingum Valley Council is committed to provide top quality training opportunities for leaders, parents and Scouts at the district and council levels. Through these efforts, the delivery of a better and quality Scouting program can be provided to our entire youth membership.
The training program of the Muskingum Valley Council and the Boy Scouts of America is designed to meet the needs of each volunteer leadership position. These training opportunities are varied and flexible enough to reach all leaders through group training experiences, personal coaching, self-study, or on-the-job training.
Many of the introductory courses are now available on-line via the BSA Online Training Center. To access the center, you will need your BSA identification number, which is located on the bottom of your registration card. If you are a new leader and do not yet have a registration card, you may contact the Council Service Center at 1-800-934-2128 to get your BSA ID number. To visit the Online Training Center, click the "BSA Online Training Center" graphic at the top left of this page.
